Bodark (AKA .. Osage Orange, Bois d'Arc, Horse Apple or Hedge) is a tree that I grew up around out on my grandfathers farm. It was primarily used for hedge rows or fence post but anywhere else it was considered a nuisance since the thorns could go through a car tire and so tough that often fence posts would sprout and become new trees. I helped clear a few of them with an axe one Summer and swear I saw sparks off of it. My grandmother said they used blocks of it for paving when she was young and after a rain a guy had to go down the street and knock the water swollen blocks back into the street.

Anyway it's really tough wood, Janka 2,620, but I've read it turns well so thought it might make a killer kendama. Does anyone out there have any experience with it?
