Yo peeps! I ran into a lil bump in the road and need some help! I've been editing footage along to a song that I just realized is featured in an older, yet banging edit. The song fits so well with my footage (it's bang sauce), but that whole thing that music can do -- bringing you back to where you heard it first -- makes me think that when people watch this new edit, they'll think of that other edit, distracting their viewership from honing in on the new new. I think it's a bad idea to keep the same song even though it works so well with the footy. Is it super lame to hear the same song in multiple kendama edits? Does it not matter? What do you think?
Lame is kinda harsh, but if the edit is iconic I would definitely not use the song. I am currently in the midst of piecing my first solo-edit together, and song choices are really important to me, because it helps the edit stand out and be unique. I think it matters.
I think it matters. I try not to use songs that have been used for that reason. But if the song really fits well with the footage, I say go ahead and use it. Sometimes I see videos where people use the same song from an edit I remember, but their trick/style doesn't fit with the song. If your footy is truly banging, then hopefully using the same song won't be too distracting. Maybe you could try to find a similar song if you really don't wanna use the song anymore. Another way to look at it is that it could be someone's first time hearing the song, so they could be thinking of your edit the next time they hear it in another edit
So what if it's used in another edit? I (try to) land tricks that other people have landed. Your edit will still be unique to you.
If the style of the edit is different, then it will set a completely different feeling from other ones.
If a particular song first a particular trick (even if it's a iconic song from a iconic edit) I'd say just use part of the song that fits that trick use a different song for the rest of the edit. Plus I like edits that use multiple songs of the editing it done well.
Yea, KROM does a good job of this. Some of Jake's edits too. Music changes subtle-ly and appropriately
