Everybody knows Swirls these days, as they are a part of a lot of spacewalk lines. As you may or may not know, they were invented by Dave (last name?) from England, influenced by diabolo tricks. He released a video with different variations through the BKA Forum back in 2011: Original thread: http://kendama.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,147.msg955.html#msg955 Video: http://juggling.tv/6686 Fun fact: He was also the one who landed Around Turnbridge Wells on video for the first time (November 2011).
Yes! Swirls are such a classic trick. I remember seeing that video and just being amazed by how cool it looks. Funny how swirls have become such a staple of spacewalk-y tricks, to the point that they're often used to 'save a line'. There's a joke in some circles, where if you kinda miss something, you can just flow into a swirl, yell '7 TO SPIKE!' and keep the line going @HNickmans do you know who coined Tunbridge wells? Also did you know there isn't an 'R' in the name of it!? I just realized this recently, I was calling it 'turnbridge' for years!
@htimSxelA , Around Tunbridge Wells is named after the Tunbridge Wells Juggling Club. You can find the article on its origin on their website: http://www.twjc.co.uk/aroundtunbridgewells.html There is no writing credit but part of the article was copied in the book "Knees", where it is attributed to Jon Relf.
Ah, perfect! I knew I had seen the history of it posted somewhere... probably deep in the UK forum archives. I should've thought to check the books though, I have a copy of all 3 of them that I poke through from time to time.
