I worked through this with Amor, and it has to do with when Facebook switched to short URLs and usernames. Read the following from our development discussion this is like this because not everyone has a facebook username. With insta and snapchat, you must have a username so we can just prepend the rest of the URL to people's usernames and make it a link. With facebook, you might have a username if you created one yourself but you also might not. This might be confusing for someone without a username because they either won't know what to put in the field or they put in their full facebook URL and the link would be really messed up without validation. We could get around this by saying "Please enter your facebook username or user ID" but the process of getting that user ID seems too convoluted for regular users: @christiansander1 think the best way to solve this for now is to just paste in your entire facebook profile URL. That way it will be a link.
@Cheech_Sander I think the system strips the Facebook URL down to the last bit with your name. I've tried putting https://www.facebook.com/goenKendama/ and it will show only "goenKendama" after I hit save and still doesn't make it a clickable link.
@Cheech_Sander when I received network wide notices, I have to quickly read the message(iOS). Then the DS app has a little red 1 on it to remind me of the alert. Now here is what can be improved: Once an alert is sent out and notice is left on icon, opening the app does nothing out of the ordinary. Is it possible to take the user directly to the alerted message? I might be doing something wrong. **Update: I check “my alerts” and there is no sign of the message. You can also direct it there. I got the message last night and was not interested at the moment so I shrugged it off until this morning. Now I can’t remember what it said…
@Congarranza for me, when I get a push notification, if I click on it, it takes me to the specific page in the app. (Android) Are you saying that when you click on the push notification on your phone nothing happens?
It might be my phone settings, but a little window drops down from the top of the screen and disappears. DS's doesn't stay up as long as a text, for example. Even if I click it when it is present, it will open DS. It won't necessarily take me to the page (dependent on if app is already open or if it is a fresh start). Regardless of my personal settings, I think a push notification should maybe link directly to the thread or to "My Alerts". Most of the time I'm browsing looking for something you or @Dæmon have recently posted.
Alright I checked this morning. I clicked the previous push notification from my lock screen and it took me to the correct page. Today, I unlocked my phone and opened DS! with a red dot on it (notification iOS), and it took me to the home page. Not sure if there is anything a developer can do from here to direct the user to the page using this path.
im ready for this giveaway this whole month is lit af 28trickslater is a banger soooo many people lacing straight fatties
We're doing some major upgrades to the site this week, this is your chance to get in suggestions! Do you like the menu? What order would you put it in? Are there features you don't use at all? Anything confusing
Hey @ShovelLovell you can mess with notifications and other preferences by clicking on your account in the hamburger menu, or here: https://www.downspike.com/account/alert-preferences also I am gonna go ahead and merge this with DS FAQ post, where you'll find other helpful tips
@Edric Owen Ladera On Android you might try going into Application settings for DS and deleting the cache. Also double check that you don't need to update the app.
The new update does not appear to have remedied the Facebook link problem. I've tried just putting the FB user name and full web address and neither creates a link to the page like the Instagram option does.
