i have a lot of old damas that i want to string up again. So I gotta buy a lot of strings, but my problem is that sometimes when I string a kendama, The string just isn't long enough. No matter what I do it just doesn't work out. I'm using around 3.5 fingers in string length. Is it true that not every brand use the same string length on the extra string that you get? Bc sometimes I can string it to my string length and sometimes i can't. I might buy the KUSA 10-pack, but is that possible to string that to 3.5 fingers? And do you guys have any methods so you can string your Ken longer? (If that makes sense) and what about krom strings?
I don't know about the KUSA strings being long enough, but I do know that a Sweets pack of strings is long enough to do around 4 fingers.
If you are worried about getting long enough strings just buy CWCS speed strings, they come with extra length in case you want like four or five fingers.
@kendama duke Search for 1mm satin cord, you can buy this in rolls or in larger quantities for much cheaper. If you shop amazon, you'll find a good selection there too. Your local arts n crafts store might have it in stock. Also note, if you buy kusa strings or the like, they will have the hardened ends to make threading easier. What I do is use a drop of super glue at the end and zap it for instant cure Check this out: Bob Smith Industries BSI-157H Maxi Cure/Insta-Set Combo Pack, 1,500...
I've noticed myself leaning towards a longer string length (4 fingers). When I was playing a fresh kaizen that came with the standard 3 finger length it felt just a bit small for me. I'm now liking string lengths between 3.5 and 4 fingers, and sometimes even a little longer. I've also noticed that I like shorter and longer strings for different types of tricks. What string length do you prefer? Are you set on one standard length or do you like different lengths for different tricks? Let me know!
I like 3 vs 2, I've tried longer, but it seems to affect my pulls, flips etc.., I suppose string length should at least partly, be relative to how tall you are or how long your arms are too.
I tend to go for a tight 4 to a loose 3. I like my string to wrap around the sarado 4 times either diagonally or vertically to the right of the string hole.
I find myself going back and forth. I usually rock 3 fingers. There was a time when I tried 1.5 fingers. Spacewalks were amazing. Recently I picked up a Craft Slim and its has enough room for a small moving truck to fit. (at least 7 fingers.) This dama has been fun for any around trick and big lofty kenflip / cup flow. In the end, If I had to choose one for the rest of my life it would be 3 fingers.
When the strings are fresh, it's a tight 4 for me! Once the string experiences some stretch, it'll nicely settle at a not-too-loose 4.
I like mine at around three and a half to four and a half. I hate short strings coz i dont have enough time to see the hole on a swing spike for example
jeeze. all yall are going crazy long. I have a couple different lengths on my daily setups. a tight 2 fingers to a loose 3. any more and it just feels like way too much.
