I’d call it a game, but more like a competive game like yo-yo. Think of something like a competitive Jenga league LOL. I also think Kendama should have a world League!
It's particularly relevant when you also consider the JKA (Japan Kendama Association) structure which is very much like martial arts in its application of rules, method, and activities. There are even ranks to be achieved similar to Judo, Karate, Kendo etc. all of which are considered sports.
Which furthers my personal opinion of considering it as much a sport as martial arts and other 'competitive' driven sports.
football can be played as a fun game, but it can definitely be a sport too, and it can for sure also be art. i think its pretty much the same with kendama. it all depends on the person. Thats is so wrong. There are a lot of sponsored professional TCG players from different TCG's. They also travel the world to compete in different tournaments.
It is. A lot of people are very adamant of how they define a sport and what activities constitute a sport or not. We can all be right, but if you tell someone they're wrong and that 'this and that' aren't sports when they are to a community of athletes and players then that's where the arguments get too heated.
I think it's both a sport and a game, but only because the concept of a "Sport" is a subset of the concept of a "game" (both definitions have been thoroughly discussed above). To phrase it in a syllogism (lol sorry I've been studying a lot of formal logic lately): All sports are games. Kendama is a sport. Therefore, Kendama is a game.
