If you don't mind me asking but how does the testing go? How many of each trick do you do?

Here's a post about the Kyu Level info. The Dan Level is similar in the way it is administered with a few exceptions.
For 1-4 Dan, three examiners with 2 Kyu license or higher and at least one of whom is the current testing level Dan or higher (exceptions may be considered for the required number of examiners depending on availability)
For 5 Dan, three examiners with 2 Kyu license or higher, including one examiner with 1 Kyu license at least.
For 6 Dan, five examiners with 2 Kyu license or higher, including one examiner with A Kyu (A Grade) license at least

1-5 Dan Need to wait at least one month between tests. 6+ Need to wait at least one year between tests.

The JKA English page explains more about the tricks and how many times etc. Scroll about 3/4 of the way down the page.

    Updated for clarity.

the 40th seal can only test up to pre-dan.

If we ever cross paths and I have my testing sheets on me, I'll be glad to test you. I can test up to 4th dan.

Stephen tells me you won't be in Tokyo, come April!
Would love to get graded by the one and only Mister Maxdesu.

Also, not sure if i should go for 3rd/4th Dan in my upcoming Japan visit.

    Bumpin' this thread.

Seriously been honing out on some Dan levels. I keep messing up on moshi though and it is so frustrating because I will get all the way through and then stumple on moshi, it is a killer

Only ever took the test once. Don't remember my rank but I was at Jun-Shodan level and I wasn't able to get the 5 Around Prefecture.

As I understand it, the JKA keeps a record of your Moshikame so if you manage to hit 500 Moshikame you are eligible to take up through 3rd Dan but if you only test/pass 1st/2nd Dan that day you do not need to repeat the Moshikame when you go back to take 2nd/3rd Dan.

When practicing for the test, start with Moshikame before doing the rest of the tricks. Though Moshikame is shown as the last column/trick in the testing chart it is the first thing you do unless you've already recorded a high enough count for the level test you are going to take (see above).
