@htimSxelA Out of the LBBs being released tomorrow, which one is your favorite Alex? How does the Oak and Purpleheart differ in play/break-in? (Never had a kendama in either wood.) They all look really amazing.
Hmm tough call... I've been jamming one of the white purplehearts, and its super rad. I haven't played an Oak LBB myself yet, but I've played a few other oak kens, and its actually somewhat similar in feel to purpleheart. Both are very sturdy and solid feeling, and both species are very hard so they don't dent up easily. Crisp cup ridges vs sourmash paint is always awesome! I suppose if it came down to it and I had to pick one, it might be the yellow/dark blue oak setups, just cause I've played purpleheart LBBs in the past, so it would be something new! The oak will be cheaper, and has stripes for tracking, so that is two bonuses!
10/10 recommend. They slay and break in nice. The size difference feels weird at first but after you get use to it it feel so much better then a standard size one.
Here's a pic from a previous release, to keep adding to the thread. Maple vs curly maple! Some of the curly pieces were very stunning, I'd love to see some pics of them after being jammed a bit. Anyone have one in their collection?
are slaydawgs and krom XL's the same thing and where do kaizen 2.0/kaizen plus fit into the different size family? are they about the sam size as LBB's or slightly smaller? sorry I'm getting to this thread a little late.
Woah that's amazing. I know very little about woods, but are those both actual classes of maple? Are there other maples I don't know about? Also I wanna get a LBB, which do you recommend?
Krom XL is pretty big, check the bottom of the first page of this thread to see a size comparison pic. Kaizen 2.0 is standard sized, craft plus is close to LBB, just a little bit smaller. I can post an updated comparison pic now that some new midsize damas are released. @7Cabbages curly maple described pieces of maple that have 'curly' figuring, it isn't a species of its own or anything like that. It happens in parts of the tree that are being compressed or stretched, like where two large branches split off one another. Other species can also have curly figure, like koa wood for example. Other types of figuring are 'birdseye', 'ambrosia', 'spalted' or 'quilted'. Search any of those alongside the word 'maple' and you'll see some examples. (Other words that describe the same / similar figuring: curly= flamed, tiger, etc) Hmm right now there are a few options for LBBs available. Would you want one that is painted? Natty? Sticky paint? Heavier? Lighter?
I wanna try the famous Terra paint on a wood that's got some decent weight if you know what I mean ;0 If you don't know what I mean, I mean not super heavy but not light
Hmm right now we don't have anything in stock that is straight terra paint. The battle scars are terra paint but unfortunately they just sold out. I can check to see if there are any oddball leftover terra painted tamas in the shop though, I'll likely be in there tomorrow, or Monday at the latest. I think there may be one tama that would fit the bill
Yess I'll let you know when I'm going to get one so you can give me the straight hook-up. I want to try purpleheart but I know it's a bit pricier so I'll start saving up
Unlike anything else I have. I don't know how to compare it. Matte, @James Hoang described it like "eggshell", almost feels like stone or something when cold. The other thing that comes to mind to me is a chalkboard. But I really like it, so neat. Maybe @htimSxelA has a better way to describe it.
Mhm yes, this interests me.. I'll definitely have to put it on my list of next buys. Hopefully it is my next purchase
