my best lunar setup is actually a keyaki shin fuji. for some reason the sarado rides low and heavy and it is even more honed than a slaydawg or even a rez. But those work well too.
For me, lunars work best on Kendamas that have a good spike length ratio, and also because I'm actually quite bad at lunars - really tacky tamas. My GT-1 is perfect for lunars - and I really think GTs are designed to have great lunar balance. But also (though I'm admittedly biased towards Sweets products) I 100 percent agree with Bryson. The F3s tend to have amazing lunar balance because their spikes always get very long. Paired with a cushion clear or aTack or Sourmash? Omg lunar heaven. The new Primes and Next Gen HGs are this way too because of that spike length ratio yet again. Perfect lunar balance out of the box. I tend to find that my experience with KROM and KUSA is good Kendamas that usually don't have good lunar balance at all. KUSA granted had a problem with their first run Kaizens spike length being too short for good lunars. So their newer stuff might be better. But almost always, though I love all my many KROM products, I don't recall having a single great lunar kendama from KROM. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist - just my personal experiences.
I'm making a Lunar machine, right now the prototype is my all time fav. 2nd fav is My REZ 3rd place is a tie between sweets prime with Cush clear tama and the b-day slaydawg
In my opinion f3 with the DWI rubber paint... Crazy easy to balance anything, also little hack to lock down birds, little ruff sandpaper to the spot the Tama touches the spike on bird.
The best lunar dama I have played is my maple GT-KA with a Matthew Ballard slaydawg tama. Sadly the KA's are low on production right now, so if any of you want to try the set up it may be a tough find. Another good lunar dama I have is my kaizen 2.0 x sourmash tama, but I got really lucky with my sarado to ken weight ratio. The main things that makes a good lunar dama is a heavier sarado to sword, sticky paint, and a longer spike. Often the same kendama will have variances from one person's to another, but you can hope you get lucky with your set up. Kendama USA has really amazing customer service, so if you really want a well balanced dama you can ask for one or just visit their store and weigh it out yourself! KUSA's Shifts are quite good for lunars, but rumor has it that there will be a new slim shape which may be the next best lunar dama.
